Malachi is 6 years old today! He was born 6-1/2wks early and tried to come 10 weeks early. We feel blessed that he was born healthy. He was in the NICU for 10days. He just didn't want to miss out on Christmas that year. ;-)

The scary side of Strep if gone undetected.

I am writing this because strep seems to be going around pretty thick lately. At our house we have some experience with strep and know what damage it can do if gone undetected. That cute little boy in that picture above your seeing wasn't smiling earlier this year.

This all started back last year at Christmas time. Malachi got sick and was running a fever so I took him in to get checked out. He had strep and was put on antibiotics. A couple days later Jonas was sick also so we took him in. He had an ear infection so they put him on antibiotics and said if he has strep also the antibiotics for his ears will also take care of strep. We finished those treatments and Jonas even got his ears rechecked 2 weeks later and everything seemed fine.

Everything was fine until a few months later in March 2011. Jonas started this movement with is fingers. It went from fingers to wrists to arm and so on. In a week he was doing this movement with his whole body. We called and got him in to see his pediatrician and he checked out other than these movements. We were not sure what in the world was going on with him and it was so scary to see him like this. His whole body was in constant motion unless he was sleeping. He couldn't focus at school and was very irritable. The only thing he complained of during this time was that his wrists, elbows, knees and ankles felt tight. During the time it took to get into the Neurologist we searched for answers and the closest we came to was a movement disorder. We had no idea why though or what to do for him

It took a couple months to get him into see a pediatric neurologist. He did a lot of tests on him and one he had was a blood test that can detect antibodies to strep bacteria circulating in the blood. They said his test showed he had really high strep levels. He diagnosed him with Rheumatic fever and Sydenham's Chorea. Chorea is what had caused his movements. Chorea is a movement disorder. His movements started going away on their own without medication one part of his body at a time just like it had started. His movments ended in June 2011.

He was sent to a pediatric Cardiologist this past August to get his heart checked out really good because all these issues he had can cause heart problems ranging from mild to severe. He had an echocardiogram & EKG. His heart checked out really good. He still has to get seen every so often to check his heart. This leaves Jonas age 8 years old with having to get a shot of antibiotics every month until he is at least 21 years of age and probably longer they said to keep his heart valves healthy. He also seems to have some occasional tics that come and go since all this has happened.

In our case this was kind of a freak thing because he was treated with antibiotics and this should not have happened, but if your children runs a high fever and are sick for more than a couple days get them checked for strep. Also, with strep you can have different symptoms than just sore throat. Some children may have ear pain, stomach pain and some children even throw-up.

This was a very scary thing for us and I am sharing this because I want your children to stay healthy! I have had to let what all has happened this year with Jonas sink in before I shared it all. I felt like it was time to share with other parents so their child doesn't have to go through what Jonas had and is going through. We feel blessed that Jonas' heart checked out and he is doing good.

Miracles and Autism

Today my Oldest Son Jeremiah turns 13yr old. It seems like just yesterday I was decorating his Noah's Ark baby room anxiously awaiting his arrival. He came a week early, but tired to come 4 weeks early, but labor stopped. He was born on August 29th after 30hrs of labor. Glad the other 2 boys came faster. Although Malachi almost came to fast.

He is a very smart & handsome young man. He is in an advanced math class at school and is always doing math or science stuff. Yes, even in the summer time. He loves school and can't wait to go everyday.

You wouldn't know now what a miracle he had when he was younger. When he was about 17months old he started regressing and losing all language, he started walking on his tip toes, starting hitting his head on the floor, he would have horrible tantrums & couldn't stand anything moved. If you slightly moved his cup or toy he would have a melt down. There is just a few for you to get the idea. He started therapy at 20months and at 25months he was diagnosed with low functioning Autism. This is the lower end meaning worse side. He lost all language and we thought all our hopes and dreams for our sweet little boy were gone. Then we ask for prayer and thousands of people prayed for him. We could feel the prayers as we started to research and start treatment.

It was completely overwhelming hearing all the treatment and what we were facing. God was with us during the entire time and directed our paths to an Autism Dr in KC. There he received treatment that started turning things around. We totally changed his diet and he got on some powerful natural supplements. With lots of prayer, therapy, natural intervention our little boy started coming back to us. He attended a special Ed preschool for 3yrs. He continued therapy and had a lot of sensory issues for years after that, but today at 13yrs old you couldn't pick him out.

Miracles do happen! I have a son to show how good God really is. He is known as our miracle kid to us. If you have a child that has been diagnosed with Autism just take it one day at a time. It is so hard in the beginning especially. It will get easier. It's very important to start treatment as early as possible. Families that are touched by Autism are very close to my heart. I pray that you will get your miracle also.

We have had another awesome Snow Day! Going to enjoy some family Wii this evening after we eat Roast Chicken... Yummy! The house smells do good. I am thinking the boys may not go back to school tomorrow. Streets are still mostly covered. Kyle did his show from home again today. That has been really nice since there was no getting out until now. When the roads are clean enough I will get Rocky our new puppy. ;-)

Meet Rocky, the newest member of our family. He is 3 months old and is going to be a our little spoiled house dog. ;-) He is a Shih-tzu puppy and so cute. Boys are so excited. More to come about little Rocky when we pick him up this week.

Malachi is enjoying homeschooling this year, but we have been talking about gong to big school this fall. He loves doing his school papers and learning new things. He enjoys going to story time at the library and getting new books each week. We got some really neat little 3 word puzzles last week and he loved them. He loves to build with his Lego's and is kinda star wars and Lego crazy these days. ;-) He sure is fun to have around. I am really going to miss him this fall when he start big school as he calls it.

I am so excited about this new year!

* I'm reading a chapter of Proverbs everyday during the month of January. It's our churches Proverbs challenge. Join me and you will not be sorry...

* I'm going to start going to the gym to swim more or at least get the Will Fit out more this year.

* My boys are healthy and happy. Jeremiah and Jonas are doing awesome in school!

* I am homeschooling Malachi this year. It's been a blast and he is so fun.... It will be a huge change for me when he goes to Kindergarten this fall, but I'm sure I can find stuff to keep me busy. ;-) Love to volunteer places and help people...

* Kyle is such a sweetheart to me and I love him so much. I am so looking forward to another year with him.. He is loving life and headed to big and better things I believe this year...

* We have been debt free to just over a year now. We use NO credit cards and owe no one anything and it feels awesome.

*What more could a girl want.... I'm so blessed!!!

This story was recently shared with my MOPS group and I thought I would share it here also. I have talked a lot about my car accident 2 years ago, but I haven't ever told the rest of the story. ;-)

When it came time to settle with the Insurance it didn't go as hoped. We were told that without suing the girl and her family we wouldn't get very much. Not even enough to cover the medical bills which were a lot. So after getting this news we began to pray about what to do. After praying about it we did not feel that God wanted us to sue her and her family and on top of that God ask me to forgive her and pray for her.

We told our lawyer that we were not interested in suing there family and left it in Gods hands. We had a mountain of medical bills and I was left with an injured hand and would have a hard time working. The day before we were suppose to settle for far less than we needed we get a call from our lawyer. It seems they had missed something and we were going to get far more than they first thought. Can you say an act of God!

When we do what Gods asks us to do he will bless us for it. After God told me to forgive her and start praying for her we found out she is a self proclaimed witch. If we had went forward with suing her we would have put a bad taste in her mouth about Christians.

In the end we were blessed to have all our medical bills covered and we were able to become completely debt free including our house! Now if that isn't amazing than I don't know what is.....

I challenge you to listen to what God is telling you and do it... WITH GOD ALL THIS ARE POSSIBLE! When you listen to God and do what he says your faith grows...

Last Saturday August 7th was our last day of vacation in kc. we slept in and had breakfast at the hotel. They had an awesome breakfast every morning there we all enjoyed. We loaded up all our stuff. Which our stuff seemed to have grown cause it was more fun getting it all back in the van. ;-) we headed to a mall and then had lunch at Culver's before heading home. We had KC BBQ on the menu for the last day, but the one we wanted to go to was closed in Overland park. Boys didn't care cause they were not real thrilled about BBQ although they would have liked it. The boys played for a little while at the mall play place and get some energy out. I drove the whole way home while Kyle kept the entertainment in the van going. We let the boys watch Veggie Tales on his laptop. It made for a nice trip home. We seemed to make good time and the trip was over fast it seemed.

Then instead of just resting we went to walmart to buy school supplies. We were all about to tired to tackle this, but glad we got it done. So theres all about our vacation to KC this summer.

Last Friday we went to the KC zoo. We got to see a Sea lion show and an elephant show. We saw lots of really neat animals. We were a little tired from our 9 hours at worlds of fun the day before. We found that we had muscles hurting in our legs we didn't know we had. ;-) It was all good and we had a blast!

Last Thursday we went to World of Fun for the day. Malachi calls it, "Snoopy World." The boys were so excited. We were coming up the road to it and Malachi started screaming, I see it, I see it. He actually did spot it before any of us did. We road a lot of rides and enjoyed the snoopy show. We ended up staying there 9 hours. We were so tired that night, but we had a blast!

Last week on Wednesday we went to check out Union Station and then Crown plaza. The boys really enjoyed it. At union station we went to see Dinosaurs unleashed. It has life size animals that moved. It was neat, but Malachi got a little scared in there. Jonas was enjoying trying to set off all the sensors to make the dinosaurs move. ;-) We also went into the train room. It has tons of trains going everywhere. We even saw Thomas the tank engine. Malachi was really thrilled about that.

Then we went over to Crown Plaza to look around. The boys loved to ride the escalators there. We ate lunch in there Crayola restaurant. The boys got crayon cups and got to color a picture. We then visited the crayon store next door. We walked around and looked at a few more things before we left.

After that we went a saw a movie at a theater. The boys did real good and liked the movie. It was very hot the first two days we were in kc, so we planned stuff to do inside for those two days. After that we went back to the hotel and played in the pool there for over 2 hours. The pool started out at 3ft and went to 5ft. The boys could swim back and forth. They are getting to be great swimmers. Jonas wore his frog life vest part of the time but some of the time he went without it and could swim just fine without it. I was trying to master swimming on my side. We all really enjoy swimming. We all watched food network back in our hotel every night before bed and had some snacks.

Tuesday of last week we all woke up early and headed to KC. I drove until we got to harrisonville. We ate lunch at a McDonald's in Harrisonville and then turned it over to Kyle to get us on into kc. We got into Kansas City and went to a cool mall first thing since it was heat index of 110. The pictures are of us at the mall. After that we went to my favorite place...Walmart ;-) to get some snacks and water for our room. We were very pleased with our room we got. It had a living room, kitchen, upstairs and another bedroom. Also had two bathrooms. It was a great place to stay all week. After we got all our stuff in our room we headed to Fazoli's for supper and then If I remember right checked out another mall that evening. I'll talk about our trip to Union Station tomorrow for day 2 of vacation in KC.

hi im jonas! i got jesus in my heart the day of my wreck and jesus kept me safe. were prayeng for mommys hand : ) i got baptized july 3 at freedom splash im relly happy! it was fun going undrwater with jeremiah. when we got home we went to see some firework at a place and then we set of lots of fireworks until midnight at our house. we did romen candles we did popits tanks sparklers and firecrackers.

Handing over the keys!

How many of you like control over your life? Most of us, right? You may like your life just the way it is and think "why should I hand over the keys to God?" Christians hesitate to just give God there all. We make excuses as to why we can't do that. God asks us to live by faith. It is hard thing to do for most Christians. It's hard to say here God I totally turn my life over to you and will live by faith, but when we do we reap huge benefits. I have not always been faithful at letting God totally have the keys, but when I do he always takes good care of me and I am blessed.

To convey how important it is to hand over the keys to God I tell you what happened to me. 2 Years ago I was was in a violent roll-over crash. It was the most terrifying night of my life. I can still hear the boys screaming, "mommy help me!" Just heart breaking for a mother to know her babies are that scared & in danger.

A young girl hit a guardrail and then slammed into the side of my van. Sending me up under a bridge and hitting the top of the bridge support. I then went air born for 50-feet and then rolled end-over-end for 3 or 4 times before stopping. I had my two youngest sons with me that night. They were 2 & 4 years old. They were fine other than a few little bumps & bruises. I took the brunt of it with a Concussion, bruised lungs, Back & neck soft tissue damage & my right hand was sliced open by the shattered window shield. My right hand had 3 finger tendons shredded, nerves damaged and bone exposed. It was not a pretty sight.

I tell you all this to tell you this. That night I thought I was almost home with my babies. I had just looked in the mirror a few minutes before that and they were sleeping peacefully in there car seats. Next things i know is I am being pushed up the bridge. At that moment I totally handed over the keys to God. The one I trusted could help us! You say, but Rebekah, "you were still hurt." Yes, I was, but my babies were fine and we all survived. It's a miracle! So see when we truly let God take control he takes good care of us. Who better than to trust your life with. so I challenge you today to give it all to God. The one that made you. The one that loves you more than anyone. And if your not a Christan turn over your life to God today! You will never regret turning it all over to God, but you may regret it if you don't.

To show you what a miracle that our accident was I'm going to share some pictures of my wrecked van! I'm so glad that I let "JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL." Last Friday we enjoyed watching the movie Horton Hears A Who outside. A local church was doing it. It was fun and I think we may got back this week.

It was 2 years ago today that I was in my horrible accident. I am so grateful to be alive today and be able to celebrate our precious day together. Jonas put Jesus in his heart the morning of the crash. It's just a remarkable day for us to celebrate! I wanted to accomplish something before my 2 years since the accident, so i learned to swim! The video about is of me swimming.

If your interested in how my hand is these days then I'd tell you it's doing pretty good all things considered. It has had major trauma and just doesn't work as good as it should, but I am so thankful that I can do a lot of things with it. It is sometimes better than other times. Have been going without my splint some now, but won't again playing basketball. I'm still paying for playing basketball 2 days in a row without my splint. So I'm still having to wear my splint some for pain. I have whats called bowing tendons in the wrist area. My wrist tendon does not hold down anymore and they all bow up a lot. This is painful at times and other times it's not as bad. Swimming has really helped my hand and neck. My neck is doing better, but I have to watch and not jar it to much or it will get to hurting. I have muscle relaxers I can take if it acts up to bad. I also have some post concussion stuff. Like I can't multi-task very good anymore! I am so blessed to be here writing this today! Thank you Jesus for protecting my family 2 years ago on the scariest night of my life.

2 years ago today Jonas put Jesus in his heart. We are going out to eat at Fazoli's this evening to celebrate his great day! He has been so excited all day! We love you Jonas and are very proud of you.

Prayer Request!

Carrie is one of our MOPS moms and she had to say goodbye to her precious baby twin boys this week. She was about 25weeks along and started having complications. She is recovering from a C-section and there funerals will be soon. Please pray for this family. They also have 2 other little boys at home.

UPDATE: I went to the twins funeral this morning. It was heart breaking, but there church pulled together an great service for them. They also did childcare for all the mops moms attending. Life Fellowship church you did a great job today and thank you for watching our kids so we could attend and be there for Carrie. This is a really hard time for there family and I just ask that you would pray for them.

We had a blast going swimming this evening. All 5 of us enjoyed the water. The boys are doing so good learning to swim. Jeremiah loves going down the water slide.

We've had a great day! We went and got a tree this morning and ate at Fazoli's for lunch. Malachi dropped his napkin and cried and cried for it. He says, I loved that napkin. He was getting tired. Then Jonas took his straw out of his cup and stuck it up into his bread stick and starting blowing bread everywhere. It was an interesting lunch. Glad there wasn't to many people in there at that time. For supper we grilled hamburgers and then planted our new shade tree in the back yard.

We went and visited Kyle's parents for a couple hours Sunday afternoon. The boys had fun playing outside with water ballons. Some how I didn't get Granny in any pics. I guess she was running to fast from the boys with water ballons. ;-) I played two games of basketball with Kyle and won them both. He doesn't like to play with me. I have no idea why. ;-)

Jonas poor left hand. Can't really see to good in this. This was taken this morning and it is a little more bruised now I think.

Jonas has had a rough weekend! His last day of school was Friday and the thing he most looked forward to doing was swimming this summer. Then last night he hurts himself and we think swimming maybe over for a while.

We were at church and after church we went up to the lobby. He got to running around and fell down on his hand on the hard floor. He cried and said his hand hurt, but didn't see anything. After he fell we headed home. At bedtime he acted like it hurt and ask what this part of his hand was. I said that is your wrist. He said it hurts and on his hand. I had him to do a couple movements and thought oh no. Took him to see what Daddy thought and he thought the same thing oh no he has broken it. So, by that time it was almost 10pm. We put some ice on it and gave him some Motrin.

This morning I woke him up and it looked the same, so went to urgent care. They X-rayed it and it took while for the Dr to come back in to give us the results. The Dr. came in and looked at it at the beginning before X-rays and thought it probably was broken. They brought him in a little DVD player and let him watch sponge Bob while we waited. Dr. finally came in and said it is not broke. That was wonderful news. Dr. said he had a bad contusion and needs to not use it for a few days.

We were so thankful that it wasn't broken. We can after a few days go on with our summer. I was a little worried cause I didn't want to loss another summer like I did the summer of my wreck. Summers are so precious and I love doing fun things with them.

We had a field Day in our back yard this afternoon for fun. We had 13 different stations set up. We has swinging, rock wall climbing, soccer, running, jump roping, tug-a-war to name a few.

We are all ready to summer time at our house. Boys get out of school tomorrow!

I took my last swimming lesson today. It has been so much fun to learn to swim. It has been fun taking them at the same time as the boys. Today's lesson went really good. I swam the whole length of the lap lane on my tummy without stopping . That is 25yards. I have learned to swim on tummy and back, tread water, dive down and get rings off the bottom of the pool, swim on my side, survival stoke and to kick off the walls and keep going in the lap lanes. I have had an awesome teacher. Thanks Jenny!

My plan is to go swim laps 2x a week and work on the building up strength in my legs at the gym also. Swimming has helped my neck/back and hand. Swimming has built up strength in my neck and it is doing better and my hand is less painful. I have been able to go without my splint a little. I also take advantage of the warm spa at the pool after I swim.

I am very excited to have learned to swim. I encourage anyone at any age if you don't know how to swim to take lessons. You are never to old to learn. You never know you just might love it like I do. I never planned to swim for fun I was just learning to be more comfortable in the water with the boys.

I'm learning it is good to do things that scare me. My accident has allowed me to step out and do new things that I would have probably never done otherwise. Things change when you about see your last day. I live my life like everyday is my last. I want to live with no regrets. Is there something your scared to do? Maybe it's time to step out and just go for it.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day was amazing. All my boys took me out to breakfast. We ate and ate and ate some more. It was all so good. There fresh strawberry's were so good. Then they took me to the mall and bought me a book. The book they bought me was " In PRAISE OF STAY-AT-HOME MOMS." I'm really enjoying reading it. I am an antsy person and can't sit still to read usually, but I really am enjoying this book. After the mall we came home and I took a nap while they all made supper and then cleaned the house. I had a wonderful Mother's Day!

I called my mom to wish her Happy Mother's Day! She is an awesome mother and friend. Love you mom.

Mops Spa day!

Yesterday was our MOPS Spa Day. It was so much fun. We got our nails done and got massages. I took my paraffin wax machine for the ladies to use. We all had an awesome time. I think all 40 moms showed up yesterday. We have such a great group of moms. This was our last meeting for this year.

Malachi and I are painted Jeremiah's room today! We are painting it Magic Blue color and we may look like smurfs when were done, but we are having fun. Jeremiah is moving into his own room. Jonas and Malachi are now sharing a room.

Civil War & Hardtack

Jeremiah is studying the Civil War in his History class at school right now. We have been doing a lot of Civil War stuff for him to get points. He has to get 600+points for an A and to not have to take the test. I think he is at 4oo, but are planning a trip to the National Cemetery this weekend. Also, getting some videos on civil war at the library I have on hold for him. He has really been interested in learning about the Civil War.

We visited Wilson Creek National Battlefield last Sunday. We looked around the museum and walked around the Ray house and cornfield. It was used as a confederate field hospital during and after the battle. We also walked down bloody hill and watch a video about the Civil War.

A couple days ago Jeremiah and I made Hardtack it is a biscuit like food made for the soldiers at Civil War times. Jeremiah thought it was really yummy. He took it to school to share and get some points for it. It is made of Flour, water, salt and Crisco. It has to cook an hour and turned over and cut half way through. Jeremiah enjoyed making it, but really loved to eat it!

Swimming

Last night Jeremiah and Jonas had swim lessons. They are both doing awesome. Jonas is just a little fish. He loves water and can hold his breath longer than any of us I think. He can swim for awhile on his tummy. He hasn't learned to take a breath and is working on that. Jeremiah is doing great also. He is doing really good on his back now and is learning to take a breath and keep going. They are both practicing diving down to get a toy off the bottom of the pool. I did this last week. It is harder than it looks to get down there.

I talked Jeremiah into going down the BIG water slide yesterday! He reluctantly went but then loved it and went a few more times. Jonas will probably get to go in July. Jeremiah said, daddy has to go now that he has gone.

Malachi practiced kicking and blowing bubbles yesterday. He is getting a lot more comfortable in the water. Had to pull him back into shallower water a few times. Jonas and Malachi took there boats yesterday to play with in the water together after Jonas lessons. They had fun. We are going to have fun going to the pool this summer. I think Jonas spends more time under the water than up ;-) He loves the water.

I am practicing swimming on tummy the hole lap lane without stopping, tummy resting stroke that is not real easy, turning at wall and kicking off to keep going and diving down to the bottom of pool. I am comfortable in the deep end of the pool now. That is one end of the lap lanes. It is 5ft deep and I'm 5ft 2in. tall so for me that's pretty deep.
